Alex has always wanted to drive a race car. It is one of the things on his "bucket list", and I decided that 40 would be a great time to do this. Besides the fact that we are finally getting financially fit, Alex has stated that 40 for him is not "over the hill", rather, he is starting a second childhood. This just fit so well! Before we gave him his ticket, we made him get into our car through the window. Nascar vehicles do not have doors, so he is going to have to be able to get in through the window in order to drive. It was no problem! And we're off!

When we arrived at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, they suited him up and gave him some basic training in racing a car. I love a man in uniform! This program is setup with a leading car (professional) and then the follow car (person who paid for this!). As long as the follower could keep up and drove steady, the leader car would take them up to a higher speed after a couple of laps. Alex drove the number 45 car and his high speed was 139 mph! They built these cars to the exact specs of the real Nascars with only 3 modifications (fiberglass body instead of steel, passenger seat and I forgot the 3rd thing). See the bottom of the blog for a picture of the real Kyle Petty number 45 car.

He said this experience was absolutely the best and couldn't believe that his 8 laps went by so quickly! We did order a dvd of this experience, but it won't be ready for a couple of weeks. While we were waiting for the drivers to get ready, they loaded up the kids into a van and took them on the track at about 120 kilometers (not sure what that is in mph), and they had fun!
